Surf Texas: A State of Mind

Surf Texas: A State of Mind

While the gentle waves ensure that the Texas coast will never be counted as one of the world’s surfing hotspots, that hasn’t stopped surfers here from doing what they love most.

Photographer Kenny Braun has captured the quiet Texas surf culture in lovely black and white images in his book, Surf Texas.

The book faithfully chronicles the world he has been a part of first-hand. True, you won’t find the big-waves or world-class competitions that have made this sport an international sensation, but you will find plenty of people who enjoy surfing at its purest level.

Enjoy these striking images that remind us that the love of surfing is less about a place and much more about a state of mind. The Lineup, South Padre Island, 2012.
