Each year, just as you think there is no hope for humanity, the Texas Book Festival arrives and restores our faith. Held each October at the Texas State Capital, the festival attracts national writers, editors, readers, reviewers and everyone else who helps keep the craft of writing alive. Always well-attended, the weekend attracts the famous and the passionate. Publishers like Texas A&M University Press and Texas Christian University Press share their works and workers. Aside from the opportunity to pick up some great books, it’s a chance to meet the people whose books you love as they discuss their work in forums held in the capital assembly halls. Sometimes, debates turn feisty, as they did during a discussion of a new book about the Kennedy assassination. So make plans now to attend the 2014 festival next October. You’ll be in good company with the people who love books.
