A long gravel road leads campers to a very old oak tree in Colorado Bend State Park. The benevolent old tree has been providing shade for weary travelers for hundreds of years. An weathered sign identifies the tree as the oldest in the park. The tree made a huge impression on Professor Lydia Long at McMurray State University in Abilene, who sent us this picture of her young son standing in front of it. The lovely park is centrally located, making it ideal for campers. As many can attest, the beautiful Hill Country drive makes the trip worthwhile. And after waiting hundreds of years for your visit, chances are high the tree will be there to greet you when you arrive.
